honestly, how many of you support your local tv?

take your average sitcom on channel 5

or

your average drama on channel 8

or

your average love story on suria

vs

shows from the US, TAIWAN and our very own neighbours Indonesia and Malaysia.

not saying that Singapore's shows are very bad. i mean look at The Noose. that is one example. maybe PCK? or other shows that i might have forgotten. but the thing is, why is the plot of all our dramas or series always reused? i mean, if you ask me to write a story for a show right now. i can honestly tell you i can write half as good as those that are on our local airwaves. but i mean, they can spice things up a little right?

take the chinese shows. shows after shows after shows. all i can see is different titles cards but same old story line. what's worst, their acting. ok. they are all good actors imo and i know the directors and all the hardworking production casts are competent people. but why on earth are all the acting so over the top?!

just the other day, i saw this ep of this show. before i say anything, imagine - over the top. the guy was chasing this girl cos the girl was leaving on a bus. the guy was suppose to be injured so he was limping. as the bus left, he was chasing the bus from behind and waving like the bus could see him. if the bus couldnt see him, what makes him think that the girl can?! what made it so funny was he was shouting her name. LIKE SHE CAN HEAR! his expressions were priceless. stressed out face. couldnt he just use his damn handphone to call her?

alright, i know. if he called her. there wouldnt be a drama. so that i can accept. it makes sense anyways. but if you cant do that, at least improve on the damn acting. the shots were bad and honestly, local shows - make up too thick. make up artists, i know you guys are the best of the best and i salute you. i cant do shit with all those. but i dont know, sometimes i think it is too thick.

I think Singapore's tv industry can do so much better if the budget was more. i mean look at the local films we've worked with other companies overseas. the acting from our local actors are good and much more believable and much more natural.

we need serialized tv shows. look overseas. prison break, heroes, grey anatomy, gossip girls. all serialized. i dont need shows that have the same story but different title. i need shows that have the same title after each season and improving on the story as they go on. people will follow the story because it is familar and they know the characters.

alright. all im saying is that. we need much better shows in singapore if we truely want to be a media hub. at least set the standard.
